This Christmas

'This Christmas' is the name of our first Christmas CD. We've collected a few original Christmas songs in the last few years and thought it was about time we put them on a CD and sent them out into the world!

'This Christmas' is being recorded, mixed, and mastered by Bill Studley, right here at Chickadee Ridge Studio in Farmington, BC Canada.

Christmas in the Peace
©Linda Studley Jan 2000

Christmas in the Peace, peace on Christmas day

I’ve had my fill of roaming now I’m coming home to stay

The northern lights shimmer and shiver above me

The Christmas light twinkle below

The plane slowly circles the Dawson Creek Airport

Nestled down there in the snow

Christmas in the Peace, peace on Christmas day

Why did I leave my Peace River home

For those neon auroras back east

Where the shimmer is phony but the shiver is real

And there’s nothing but fake Christmas trees

Christmas in the Peace, peace on Christmas day

For years now I’ve been dreaming of coming home one day

As I walk from the plane to the lights of the airport

I enter a sweet state of grace

A warm chinook wind is caressing my cheek

And holding me in its embrace

Christmas in the Peace, peace on Christmas day

An old-timer told me long ago

When my feet started itching to roam

If you drink from the Peace girl, you’ll always return

The northland will call you back home

Christmas in the Peace, peace on Christmas day

I scan the crowd, your eyes meet mine

and my heart is swept away

I wouldn’t have blamed you if you hadn’t waited

I’ve been away for so long

We laugh and you hold me, the Peace land enfolds me

I know I’m back where I belong

Christmas in the Peace, peace on Christmas day

Peace on Christmas day.

Merry Christmas Dawson Creek

©Linda Studley 2004

The northern lights and stars fell down and landed gently on our town
They swing from eaves and Christmas trees and light up Dawson Creek

 Chorus:

From the top of the tallest Christmas tree

You shine your light for all to see

Merry Christmas, merry Christmas Dawson Creek

The winter dark comes early here and hearts could easily despair

But Christmas sparkles in our streets and lights up Dawson Creek

Chorus

But all the lights that gild the night can’t hold a candle to the light

That spills from hearts here in the Peace and lights up Dawson Creek

Chorus

Peace Country Christmas

© Bill Studley 2000

Sometimes at this season, folks lose sight of the reason

We rejoice at this time every year

With the bustle and hurry, work and the worry

There’s no time for that old Yuletide cheer

Out here in the country, in the quiet of nature

As the snow whispers down through the trees

Friends and fam’ly get together, they don’t mind the weather

There’s a joy that comes with the peace

Chorus:

Have a Peace Country Christmas shared with people you know

Makes you feel so much warmer up here in the snow

May the joy of the holidays remain with you always

As a blessing where ever you go.

It’s a Peace land tradition, to gather in the kitchen

And remember the good times gone by

Coffee and conversation, Mama’s home baking

Warm feelings that money can’t buy

Time to rest from your labours, spend some time with your neighbours

Forget all your cares for a while

Watch Jack Frost adorning, a bright Christmas morning

That’s Christmas in Peace Country style.

This Christmas

See their eyes, shining with Christmas lights

And the magical lies, like reindeer that fly

Will keep them from sleep until late tonight

And the plans and the schemes that dance in their dreams

Will all turn to joy in the morning light

When love’s what you give them for Christmas

See their eyes, shining with tears un-cried

And the magical lies, like “I’ll be just fine”

Will keep them from sleep until late tonight

And the hopes and the fears, the laughter and tears

Will all turn to joy in with the morning light

When love’s what you give them for Christmas

Doesn’t really amount to much;

a word, a touch, or a smile.

See their eyes, shining with years gone by

And the magical lies, like “Soon I’ll stop by”

Will keep them from sleep until late tonight

And the ghosts of the past and the shadows they cast

Will all turn to joy in the morning light

When love’s what you give them for Christmas

When you give of yourself, this Christmas

Home for Christmas Day

©Linda Studley Dec 2000

Candlelight, burning bright spills across the snow so white

And lights the weary trav’ler’s way home for Christmas Day

Christmas trees, memories wood smoke lingers on the breeze

And frees the heart to find its way home for Christmas Day

Chorus:

But where does your heart go when home is just a dream

Bittersweet memories of how it might have been.

Where is the light to show the way?

And where do you go on Christmas Day?

Children sing “We Three Kings” voices soft as angels’ wings

Things that help you make your way home for Christmas Day

Chorus

Far away, joy delayed, too sick to try, too tired to pray

Too late to go back anyway home for Christmas day

Chorus

Candlelight, burning bright spills across the snow so white

And lights the weary trav’ler’s way home for Christmas Day

Just close your eyes and find your way home for Christmas Day

Peace Came Down on Christmas Day

©Linda Studley (Oct 2004)

I remember my father tangled in the Christmas lights

Always one bulb that wouldn’t shine

I remember my Christmas concert when I was six years old

The tinsel itched … And I forgot my line

Memory has a way of tinkering with time

And Christmas past is always perfect in my mind

And the lights went on, and the children sang

And peace came down on Christmas day

I remember the skating rink we’d clear out on the lake

Spent most of my time there falling down

I remember the laughter and singing Christmas songs

We weren’t very good. But man, we sure were loud!

Memory has a way of tinkering with time

And Christmas past is always perfect in my mind

And we’d glide like swans, and the laughter rang

And the lights went on, and the children sang

And peace came down on Christmas day

I remember Christmas morning, waking up too soon

Waiting for hours by the tree

And I remember Christmas mornings, waking next to you

I know there’s no where else that I would rather be, though

Memory has a way of tinkering with time

Christmas with you is always perfect in my mind

And the new day dawns, and you hold my hand

And we glide like swans, and the laughter rang

And the lights go on, and the children sang

And peace comes down on Christmas day. Every year it comes down

And peace comes down on Christmas day. Here it comes again now

Peace comes down on Christmas day

A Place at the Table
©Bill & Linda Studley 2000

Twenty years old, twenty below,

Twenty more blocks in the falling snow

Looking for a place she heard about

Where they give you food for free

Running shoes soaked, coat so thin,

She shivers as she prays that they let her in

And she cries to the night so hard and cold

“Is there a place at the table for me?”

Chorus:

All of God’s children need a hand sometimes

To help them up if they should fall

If we all reach out to our fellow-man there’ll be a

Place at the table for all

Life’s been hard, time’s been tough,

And the money never seems to go far enough

The kids have been so good this year they deserve a little fuss.

Job is gone, bills to pay, there’ll be no joy on Christmas day

If you’re listening Lord won’t you hear me pray

There’ll be a place at the table for us.

Sit in my room, live in the past

How did the years roll away so fast?

And I keep the TV on all night just to keep me company

Christmas for one, sit by the phone,

The kids didn’t call and I’m all alone

And all I ask in these lonely times is a place at the table for me.

The New Jingle Bells
Bill Studley 2006

To protest the price of gas, which is rising every day

I thought I’d park my pick-up truck and bring out the one-horse sleigh

I’d drive on into town, all up and down the streets

And laugh HO HO like Santa Claus at every car I’d meet

Oh jingle bells jingle bells, jingle all the way

No greenhouse gas emissions from my one horse open sleigh

Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way

I’m environmentally sensitive in my one horse open sleigh.

Now the morning it was bright, with the frost on every tree

A-sparkling in the sun, as pretty as could be

When I harnessed up my horse and hitched him to the sleigh

And as he looked around at me I could almost hear him say….

Oh jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way

I’m not too keen on dragging round this one horse open sleigh

Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way

I’ll teach you Bub to hook me up to a one horse open sleigh.

I started off for town, as happy as can be

But the horse he was not feeling quite as jovial as me

When a logging truck roared by, he started in to pitch

And me and my one horse open sleigh went tumbling in the ditch

Oh jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way

No safety belts or roll bars in my one horse open sleigh

Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way

It’s no fun riding upside down in a one horse open sleigh

When I finally got to town it was getting kind of late

I tried a brave ‘HO HO’, but it didn’t come out great

With my hands and feet gone numb and my lips all blue with cold

And my britches frozen to the seat, I didn’t feel quite so bold.

Oh jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way

I maybe should have tried this thing on a somewhat warmer day

Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way

There’s no high-output heater in my one horse open sleigh

So now I’m headed home, just a shivering all the way

As I contemplate the lesson that I have learned today

Though the price of gas is high, I might just be glad to pay

Cause I can fill my gas tank up three times for the price of bale of hay

Oh jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way

There’s definite advantages in a nice warm Chevrolet

Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way

I’m like a sad brass monkey here in my one horse open sleigh.
